Here I Am - Part 2

Tonight was our Perspectives class (www.perspectives.org/portland) Each week is always a blessing, and just when I think it's my favorite, God surprises me with more.  As the coordinator of the course, I often give announcements and make introductions.  Tonight I began with a question:
"Who has never been out of country, or on any short term mission trip?"  There was just a handful of arms raised - including my own.
It wasn't for not wanting to ever 'go', but that I was content to be a 'sender.'  Looking around the room and the majority who have had the privilege to experience cross-culture outside our borders, I said that each of these folks know how important it is to have those behind serving as senders and supporters.  Several nodded heads in agreement.  Perspectives was a tool that validated my role - a sender.
In earlier years, our family also would take in foreign exchange students in order to share an American family experience.  One time we sponsored a Russian family of 8 to live with our family of 8 for six weeks!  Now, THAT was an experience - and one we cherish.
So, I encouraged those few who were still serving in God's Kingdom here on the home front.  I shared that being home is just as valuable as is the going.  And, then I told them how after all these years - I now get to experience a short term experience with my daughter - leaving tomorrow!  There was audible affirmation and encouragement.
The topic tonight was, "Mandate to the Nations."  And, briefly, a specific point was that if we aren't intentionally "making disciples" according to Matthew 28 (and other Biblical passages), then how can we expect to do so elsewhere?  Again, I felt validated!  God has opened the door for me to go at this time.  And you know what?  My time will be to encourage and support Latin American missionaries!  How fitting for my gifting!
Several prayed over me tonight.  These were unexpected and a blessing.  Others encouraged me from their own experiences.  These were awesome to receive.
I am ready.  Time to get packing!
