It's just a little over two days and I'll be flying with Heather to Argentina. This will be my first time ever to travel outside the U.S.
- well, except for Canada! Yet, the difference in this adventure is I will be in a place where language will be different, color of skin will be different, surroundings will be different, understanding of everyday happenings will be different, climate will be different.
Over the last weeks it's been crazy busy so I haven't been able to give much thought to this trip. Friends ask "Are you excited?" I would say today, Monday, I'm beginning to get into the mind-set that this is really happening!
I've had my suit case sitting out for about a week - open - I would drop things in as I thought about them. How does one pack for Argentina? It's summer there now, and it's winter here - although a nice spring-y like feel this week. So, I HAD to go and find some summer clothes - that fit! My suit case is filling up.
I have always enjoyed being a "sender". It didn't bother me much to see friends go off to places unknown - I always enjoy hearing their stories and imagining how they could ever live where they do! Eventually, members of my own family would head out: Peru, England, Thailand, China - Argentina.... I was content. Not everyone is 'meant' to 'go'. But it doesn't mean the tug in my heart wasn't there.
Argentina. Our friends, Jon and Dawn, oversee a training school for Latin American Christian missionaries. This program equips these students to live cross-culturally. Heather went to help in the English Village part of the program - teaching English skills - for about a month. They all saw this as a good fit for me as well. So, the invitations persisted and now I'm going!
There's much more to my story - but, I'll leave it here for now. I have posted a link to a popular song that is going around. The lyrics fit my story so well! I hope you'll take some time to listen to it.
