It’s usually while I’m driving or waking in the middle of the night when I think of those wonderful topics I want to write about! Today was one of those days. After a meaningful friendly visit with a young single friend my mind kept returning to part of our discussion – my adult daughter is single, and is content in her singleness.
When I was my daughter’s age, I had already been married 10 years and was the mother of four children. I honestly never imagined life as a single woman because my high school sweetheart became my husband. Since early childhood my desire and life’s ambition was to be a mother and wife. This really wasn’t unusual in those days, but today, this would definitely come across as an antiquated dream.
But, I marvel watching my daughters live their single lives (well, two are married now), and how they use their time for personal interest. Sure, they went on to college and completed different levels of their education. And, they are all amazingly creative - where DO they get that?? As I was talking with my young friend, and she was struggling with a life decision, we discussed how being single - for these times - gives so much opportunity to live out God's plan in her life. What an exciting adventure!
I admire our daughters. I admire how each of them have chosen their single years to serve the Lord, give to others, continue education where needed, and so on. They love and respect their parents, and they love and respect their brothers and friends.
